Here we see Van Morrison and his then wife, the ever beautiful Janet Planet. Janet was the quintessential muse in every sense of the word. When I look at these photos I imagine that when Lord Byron wrote “She Walks In Beauty” all those years ago, he was thinking about a woman very similar to Janet. There is no doubt Van was madly in love with her because we have the songs to prove it. Janet inspired what many consider to be some of Van’s best work; songs like Ballerina, Beside You, Crazy Love, Gypsy Queen, Sweet thing, You’re My Woman and The Way Young Lover’s Do… Just to name a few. Though the relationship did come to a rather tragic and bitter end, we the listeners are still left with music. The beautiful thing about music is that it doesn’t die, even if the passion and love that inspired it has.
